Hi, I make a lot of dolls with sculpy and it takes almost any paint or pencil you use on it. If you want to give it a shiny affect a cheep and effective material to use is clear nail polish. I've never been able to make a BJD but you can use a wire armature two string it together. I make a body with a swivel joint at the waist and neck so that the doll has some flexibility. I then run wire through the shoulders and just below the hips of the doll unto which I can put the polymer arms and legs. Your can cover the wire with cloth or felted wool and it looks quite nice. I know it isn't quite the same as EDs but I love the dolls I make with this method!
