I had wanted her hands to have this dainty delicate poised look, so I then made a third hand, a left hand and now however she seems to be making gang signs...

I found this hysterical. You are doing really well. I can't even imagine the sculpture of a face in any medium. I tried to "sculpt" shoe heels once in sculpy. It took forever and was eh when I finished. So, don't be hard on yourself, you've come a long way.

This thread does give you a real appreciation for the amount of work involved.
It's not getting what you want, it's wanting what you get.

I totally agree. Trying to make a doll makes you realize just what a master Marina is. I attempted to sculpt a face from polymer clay and it was just hideous!

Dollutional I saw your comment earlier and it really cheered me! Thank you!

Yes Anna, I will have another try at sculpting a face, but don't expect photos any time soon, I could be here for another fifty years till I make one I like!!!

I love this thread, so entertaining and your great sense of humour really gives me a laugh. Your girls look great with their painted faces.

Thanks for the tips Anna. I know what faces I like, usually pretty and feminine, you know, the ones like Marina makes. Unfortunately, what's in my brain doesn't seem to translate to my fingers! My son said my effort looked like a black rapper! Which is great, but not really what I was aiming for !!

    Hang in there.

I know that frustrated, yet mesmerizing drive to make a doll. I have spent countless hours- shaping, reshaping. But the first doll to come alive , no matter her flaws, is worth all the effort. I am now working on my 4th and 5th doll ( Christmas presents). Each one gets better and better but I'm still not where I want to be. Maybe I never will, but it has been fun trying! It looks like you have a great start. I work in porcelain and it is very strong.
